Sliced raw fish alone is called sashimi, as distinct from sushi. Combined with hand-formed clumps of rice, it is called nigirizushi (にぎり). Sushi served rolled inside or around nori (dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or algae) is makizushi (巻き). Toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu is inarizushi. Toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice called chirashi-zushi (ちらし).

What are some good ingrediants for sushi?
Q. I really like sushi, but I was wondering what else I could put in it to make it "not-so-traditional." I really like California rolls but really dislike Philadelphia rolls. Do you have any ideas for other types of "Americanized" sushi? I'd really like to try to make something different, but I'm not very good with coming up with these new ideas, haha.

A. Leftover sushi from whatever meat, veggies, etc you have leftover (the cafeteria at work does that). I was laughing so hard to day when I saw the breaded chicken they had yesterday cut up and stuck in sushi today...

A. Julienned carrots, sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, straw mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, bean sprouts, bok choy, red onion, julienned celery, asparagus... I've had sushi w/ asparagus in it and its goood. Oh and I forgot! Red, green and yellow bell peppers. It's all about the textures and crunch factor! Don't forget the wasabi!!!

What is the perfect temperature to eat sushi?
Q. What would be the perfect temperature to eat sushi rolls after you get them out of the fridge? Cold, chilled, room temp, body temp?

A. Just a little warmer than chillled. Not quite room temp. Sushi can smell kinda funky if you let it get too warm.
