Is there a such thing as a deviant culture or society or is that an ethnocentric statement?
Q. Ethnocentricity is the use of one s own culture as a yardstick for judging the ways of other individuals or societies, generally leading to a negative evaluation of their values, norms and behaviors. cultural relativity is NOT judging a culture, by trying to understand it on its own terms. Today I watched the travel channel. There was a group of people on who wore no clothing, they had sticks in their chins, the children & adults were both nude. Yet, with a culturally relative perspective, I didn't judge them. I realized that they didn't see anything wrong with that. Therefore it was NOT deviant behavior. In many societies this would be deviant behavior! The women and men had multiple husbands and wives. One woman promised her oldest… [cont.]

A. I think there are deviant cultures. I am using the logic that deviant means abnormal. Like strapping on explosives to children or having childrens run through mine fields to set off the mines for the elders. I think that people that have childbrides marry older men for their cult to produce offspring is simply pediphilia. I think that people that like to be bondaged and whipped have severe mental problems. I think gang mentality is deviant. You get the idea.
