Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC; SEHK: 4335; Euronext: INCO) is a technology company, and the world's largest semiconductor chip maker, based on revenue. It is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. Intel was founded on July 18, 1968, as Integrated Electronics Corporation (though a common misconception is that "Intel" is from the word intelligence) and is based in Santa Clara, California, USA. Intel also makes motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, flash memory, graphic chips, embedded processors, and other devices related to communications and computing. Founded by semiconductor pioneers Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, and widely associated with the executive leadership and vision of Andrew Grove, Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability. Originally known primarily to engineers and technologists, Intel's "Intel Inside" advertising campaign of the 1990s made it and its Pentium processor household names.

Intel was an early developer of SRAM and DRAM memory chips, and this represented the majority of its business until 1981. While Intel created the first commercial microprocessor chip in 1971, it was not until the success of the personal computer (PC) that this became their primary business. During the 1990s, Intel invested heavily in new microprocessor designs fostering the rapid growth of the PC industry. During this period Intel became the dominant supplier of microprocessors for PCs, and was known for aggressive and sometimes controversial tactics in defense of its market position, particularly against AMD, as well as a struggle with Microsoft for control over the direction of the PC industry. The 2010 rankings of the world's 100 most powerful brands published by Millward Brown Optimor showed the company's brand value at number 48.

Intel has also begun research in electrical transmission and generation.

What is the difference between a intel chipset family and a video graphics card?
Q. My pc runs an intel g31/g33 chipset and is not compatible with some games. In order to play those games I am finding out I need to install a suppported graphics card. But I can't figure out if I'm replacing the chipset or just adding it into an expansion slot. And then do I have to replace the power supply for the video card as well? This is confusing and frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A. The chipset is integrated (built in) hardware. If you buy a gaming graphics card that is supported by the games, then that one will fit into the expansion slots (agp or pci). The graphics card is powered by the computer's power supply and you do not need to worry bout replacing any power supply.

What is the best intel i7 for overclocking?
Q. My choices are Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) or Intel Core i7 930 2.80Ghz (Bloomfield) Of course the 930 has a faster clock speed, but they are bopth priced the same. Is the 920 a better choice for overclocking? How much of an improvement will I see over my current core2 duo 2.4 ghz running at 3.0? Thanks!

A. I've bee a computer professional for over 15 years, and gaming for longer. If I've learned one thing, it's that people place far too much importance on CPU clock speed. You really ought to be more concerned with your GPU, your RAM (both quantity and front side bus speed), and your quantity of VRAM. All of those are far, FAR more important to performance than the clock speed of your CPU. More important than overclocking, you should be concerned about which one has more L2 Cache, and which one has a faster front side bus speed.

When will intel be releasing their new processors?
Q. I read an article somewhere not long ago (maybe 2 weeks ago) that intel will be releasing a 6 core processor and any processors made by intel will no longer have the FSB (FrontSideBus) and they'll be introducing something called QuickPath Interconnect which will be much faster. I was thinking of buying a new laptop now but my old one is still ok so now I think I'll wait for the new intel processors but anyone have any more news about them? When they'll come out etc?
