Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of the Sea of Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south. The characters that make up Japan's name mean "sun-origin", which is why Japan is sometimes referred to as the "Land of the Rising Sun". Japan is an archipelago of 6,852 islands. The four largest islands are Honshū, Hokkaidō, Kyūshū and Shikoku, together accounting for 97% of Japan's land area. Most of the islands are mountainous, many volcanic; for example, Japan’s highest peak, Mount Fuji, is a volcano. Japan has the world's tenth-largest population, with over 127 million people. The Greater Tokyo Area, which includes the de facto capital city of Tokyo and several surrounding prefectures, is the largest metropolitan area in the world, with over 30 million residents. Archaeological research indicates that people were living on the islands of Japan as early as the Upper Paleolithic period. The first written mention of Japan begins with brief appearances in Chinese history texts from the first century A.D. Influence from the outside world followed by long periods of isolation has characterized Japan's history. Since adopting its constitution in 1947, Japan has maintained a unitary constitutional monarchy with an emperor and an elected parliament called the Diet. A major economic power, Japan has the world's second-largest economy by nominal GDP and the third largest in purchasing power parity. It is also the world's fourth largest exporter and fifth largest importer. It is also the only Asian country in the G8 and is currently serving as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Although Japan has officially renounced its right to declare war, it maintains a modern and extensive military force which is employed in self-defense and peacekeeping roles. It is a developed country with very high living standards (10th highest HDI). Japan has the highest life expectancy of any country in the world (according to both the UN and WHO estimates) and the third lowest infant mortality rate. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I'm looking for information 'behind scenes' which might led to attack on Pearl Harbor, for instance Japanese movements, ideologies in Japan culture such as superiority, etc. I need more ideological JPN's view, JPN's view of the World during the history, especially in the inter war period. I'm looking more for psychological aspects within JPN, which might led to desire for an Empire and attack on Pearl Harbor itself. Pacific Fleet for a period of up to eighteen months, preventing aggressive action against imperial forces, with the fleet to later be drawn out into a final battle and destroyed. The Japanese launched a surprise attack on the US Navy and Air force so they could proceed in conquering China. The Japanese believed that if they were successful with bombing the US Ships and Aircraft that they would then have enough time to proceed in conquering China. Answered by POKO!kitty - Sat Feb 6 09:12:36 2010 How long must you reside in Japan to adopt a Japanese child?
Q. My fiance and I are moving to Japan soon and we would like to adopt a Japanese child since we are unable to have children. I can't seem to find any information regarding how long you must live in Japan in order to begin the adoption process. They do. I've heard it was difficult, however. Asked by unknown - Mon Apr 20 01:52:05 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. adaption is extremely difficult in Japan. They are children who are adapted, but it's mostly done among family such as uncle adapt nephew...If you are not Japanese, and completely unrelated to the child, it's not likely you can adapt Japanese children. Japan is one of the few country in the world which population is decreasing. The government is encouraging young people to have more children, and they even pay for couples to have children. I'm sorry to say it's not likely for American couple to be able to adapt Japanese children. Unlike Japan, Chinese or Korean children are much easier to adapt. Or you might want to find Asian children for adaption in U.S. You have much better chance of finding Japanese children for adaption that way since… [cont.] Answered by indigolizard - Wed Apr 22 23:17:50 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "japan" Japan is a nation made up mainly of Islands in east Asia.
