Lord is a title with various meanings. It can denote a prince or a feudal superior (especially a feudal tenant who holds directly from the king, i.e., a baron). The title today is mostly used in connection with the peerage of the United Kingdom or its predecessor countries, although some users of the title do not themselves hold peerages, and use it 'by courtesy'. The title may also be used in conjunction with others to denote a superior holder of an otherwise generic title, in such combinations as "Lord Mayor" or "Lord Chief Justice". The title is primarily taken by men, while women will usually take the title 'lady'. However, this is not universal, as the Lord of Mann and female Lord Mayors are examples of women who are styled 'lord'.

In religious contexts Lord can also refer to various different gods or deities. The earliest uses of Lord in the English language in a religious context were by English Bible translators such as Bede. This reflected the Jewish practice of substituting the spoken Hebrew word 'Adonai' (which means 'My Lord') for YHWH when read aloud.

According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the etymology of the word can be traced back to the Old English word 'hlāford' which originated from 'hlāfweard' meaning 'bread keeper' or 'loaf-ward', reflecting the Germanic tribal custom of a chieftain providing food for his followers. Lady, the female equivalent, originates from a similar structure, believed to have originally meant 'loaf-kneader'.

How is Lord of the Flies related to the themes and issues of its historical period?
Q. All literature is a product of its environment. Therefore, literature is part of the time in which it is created, a snapshot, a reflection, or a shadow of a time and place. How is Lord of the Flies related to the themes and issues of its historical period? Describe the time and place in which this book is created and explain some of the key relevant issues of that time. Explain how the text is related to those issues.

A. This sounds a whole lot like you need your homework done for you... Anyhow, it was written in 1954 in the UK. The first thing that comes to mind is that this is post WW2. The biggest theme in the Lord of the Flies is the whole "is man inherently good or evil?". The island strips away all laws and social structure and the boys revert to a savage like state. This shows the authors thinking might lean towards men being evil by nature. This ties into the time and place because post WW2 thinking in the UK was likely geared towards the devestation they had taken from the Germans. They might ponder the reasons of the German's savagry and thus begging the age old question of whether or not man is evil by nature. This can also flow right… [cont.]

How do the rules in Lord of the flies affect the boys?
Q. In lord of the flies, how do the rules that the boys establish help the strong but hurt the weak ?

A. The ethical nature of any society depends ultimately on the morality of its individual members, and in Lord of the Flies, humans are basically corrupt and inherently evil. It seems that rules and order are the only boundaries keeping people from their true, violent natures. As soon as you take those people and put them outside of a system with punishments and consequences, they will revert to primitive attitudes and actions, and destroy themselves in the process. Hindus, Why are most poojas and auspicious ceremonies begun with prayers to Lord Ganapathi?
Q. I have noticed that many temples (almost all temples i have been to till now) have an idol of lord Ganesh/Ganapathi and first he is offered prayers. Also during religious functions and ceremonies his name is invoked first. Why is this so?

A. Lord Ganapathi is also considered to be the god of "tarak or argue" and all of us know arguing or tarak or reasoning if not followed consciously mostly ends in kutark or quarrelling. So lord Ganapathi is being prayed by Hindus, in the beginning of all auspicious ceremonies, whether religious or non religious, for successful and peaceful accomplishment of the work without arguing or quarrelling.
