In Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica many cultures matured into advanced civilizations such as the Olmec, the Toltec, the Teotihuacan, the Zapotec, the Maya and the Aztec before the first contact with Europeans. In 1521, Spain conquered and colonized the territory, which was administered as the viceroyalty of New Spain which would eventually become Mexico as the colony gained independence in 1821. The post-independence period was characterized by economic instability, territorial secession and civil war, including foreign intervention, two empires and two long domestic dictatorships. The latter led to the Mexican Revolution in 1910, which culminated with the promulgation of the 1917 Constitution and the emergence of the country's current political system. Elections held in July 2000 marked the first time that an opposition party won the presidency from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (Spanish: Partido Revolucionario Institucional, PRI). As a regional power, and since 1994 the first Latin American member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mexico is firmly established as an upper middle-income country, and is considered a newly industrialized country and an emerging power. It has the 13th largest nominal GDP and the 11th largest by purchasing power parity. The economy is strongly linked to those of its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, especially the United States, as well as tourism, being the world's tenth most visited country with over 21.4 million international arrivals. Mexico boasts a long tradition in the arts, renowned cuisine, and culture, and it ranks fifth in the world and first in the Americas on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites with 31. The majority of the clubs are in the area where the top part of the 7 turns south to the longer arm of the 7. So any resort numbered from 25 through 31 will put you within easy walking distance to the clubs. I would recommend the Riu Palace Las Americas or the Riu Cancun. I would click the second link below and plug in your dates to see if any good deals come up for those two on the Bookit website. Q. I'm planning a trip to Mexico for this summer, and was wondering what the best/nicest area was in Mexico. Any input helps. Asked by D - Wed May 26 07:20:12 2010 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. If it is "Sun & Sand then almost all of coastal Mexico is the best. The east side of the Gulf of Mexico from Veracruz is not very popular until one gets to South Padre island. The Yucatan peninsula is very popular these days and attracts approximately 25% of the tourist population. Cancun gets an estimated 10% alone. The entire west coast from Rosarito to Guatemala including the Sea of Cortes by Sea is nothing short of breathtaking and collectively attracts most tourists to Mexico. If it is 5 star resorts and culture the Yucatan peninsula has a lot to offer with all the Mesoamerican Ruins to visit. There is no time to be bored during a two week vacation. The best time to do the meseta or antiplano (Plateau) is of course during the… [cont.] Answered by Jim2 - Wed May 26 08:50:24 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "mexico" Key oil spill evidence raised to Gulf's surface - The Associated Press
