Nounprefectures
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Prefecture (from the Latin Praefectura) indicates the office, seat, territorial circumscription of a Prefect. The term prefecture is also used to refer to offices analogous to prefectures. Literal prefecturesAntiquityIt has been used most prominently to denote a somewhat self-governing body or area since the tetrarchy, when emperor Diocletian divided the Roman Empire into four districts (each divided into dioceses, grouping under a Vicarius a number of Roman provinces, listed under that article), although he maintained two pretorian prefectures as an administrative level above the also surviving dioceses (a few of which were split). EcclesiasticAs Canon law is strongly inspired by Roman law, it is not surprising that the Catholic Church has several offices under a prefect. That term occurs also in otherwise styled offices, such as the head of a congregation or department of the Roman Curia. Various ecclesiastical areas, too small for a diocese, are termed prefects. Analogous prefecturesBrazilian equivalent of prefectureIn Brazil, the prefecture (prefeitura in Portuguese) is the Prefeitura Municipal, home to the Executive of a city and to the mayor's office. I was a JET a long time ago so I am not sure if things have changed but I don't think you have much of a chance unless you have some kind of documenated disability that requires you to live in a certain type of place. When I was a JET, even though I could request a certain area to live in there was nothing on the application form allowing me to request a certain type of accommodation. When you join JET, you are not working for the Japanese Government or CLAIR. Those two group manage the JET Programme, but theya re not your employers. You are employed by a local Board of Education. Each Board of Ed manages their JET teachers slightly differently. JET contracts (pay, etc.) are generally the same but things like work environment and where… [cont.] Answered by GD173 - Sat Sep 20 02:55:15 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "prefectures" |
