What makes the republican candidates different from George W Bush?
Q. Can anyone tell me where any of the republican candidates would be different from W, other than being more conservative on immigration? Ron Paul would be different, all the candidates say they would be more agressive on immigration. What else? They have all criticized the handling of the war, but not said they would do anything different. They all believe in his tax cuts, his judges, his policy of expanding democracy inthe mideast. Other than immigration are any of them proposing doing anything differently than the least popular president since Nixon?

A. Every republican is exactly the same. They are out to preserve the republican way of life more than they are to truly do whats best for the american people as a whole. Alsways have been that way, and always will be that way.

How did the Republican party become the conservative party and the Democrats the liberal party?
Q. During the Civil War it was the other way around. Most southerners were Democrats and most northerners were Republican, now it's the other way around. What happened?

A. Two things: Johnson in the 60s (especially the civil rights bill of 1964) and Reagan in the 80s. Johnson broke the 'solid South' for the Democratic Party (he admitted that the civil rights legislation had "lost the South for a generation" for the Democrats), and Reagan, the consummate actor and self-made Cold Warrior, won it solidly for the Republicans. There were other factors involved, including demographic factors (the swelling population of the white South) and the growing political influence of white evangelical Christians.

Suppose a Republican won next election for President, how will he deal with a Democrat Congress?
Q. No chance of even 1 House of Congress going Republican next year. Will Republicans whine about their President "selling out"? Blame the Congress for not rubber stamping a Republican agenda?

A. Honestly, it just all depends on who is elected. Not all Republican presidents are dictating bullies like Bush Jr. I couldn't imagine Ron Paul being that way. If he were to be elected, I am sure he would try his best to work with the Democratic Congress to find a middle ground.
