A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet, but smaller than a town or city. Though often located in rural areas, the term urban village is also applied to certain urban neighbourhoods, such as the West Village in Manhattan, New York City and the Saifi Village in Beirut, Lebanon. Villages are normally permanent, with fixed dwellings; however, transient villages can occur. Further, the dwellings of a village are fairly close to one another, not scattered broadly over the landscape ('dispersed settlement'). Historically, villages were the usual form of community for societies that practise subsistence agriculture, and also for some non-agricultural societies. In Britain, a hamlet earned the right to be called a village when it built a church. In many cultures, towns and cities were few, and were home to only a small proportion of the population. The Industrial Revolution caused many villages to grow into towns and cities; this trend of urbanisation has continued, though not always in connection with industrialisation. Villages have thus been eclipsed in importance as units of human society and settlement. From Wikipedia under the

As a general rule, the houses get nicer as the price goes up. But specifically, nicest depends on what is important to you. Some want a large show-off house and lawn, others figure life is to short to mess with that stuff and go for a villa or court yard home. It really does not matter as once you are here for awhile you'll likely decide to move again within The Villages. Many Villagers have moved within more than 3 times in less than 10 years because their tastes,… [cont.] Answered by Auntie Mame - Fri Jan 26 18:44:22 2007 Is it possible to get Wireless Internet Service everywhere in India, even the villages? Q. please please help me out :) anyone know this? Asked by stephisnoodle - Tue May 13 16:18:08 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Usually, they were called Hamlets. Hence, the American "Strategic Hamlet" program. Often, amlets that were close together would be given numeric designations by the Americans to avoid confusion. So, in the Hamlet of Phou Dong, there would be Phou Dong 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on. Answered by Chances68 - Tue May 13 16:28:19 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "villages" |
